Generator Installation

Our generator installation services keep your home powered during outages. We handle the electrical connections, transfer switches, and testing to ensure your backup power system works when you need it most.

Chapter 01

Why a portable unit and a cord isn't a plan

Out in the county, the lights go off first and come back last. A portable generator and an extension cord gets you through a night, but it means cords through windows, a loud machine in the yard, and the temptation to back-feed the house through a dryer outlet, which can hurt a lineman and burn your own wiring. A fixed system takes all of that off the table.

Families in Trinidad, Kerens and Malakoff know the routine: an ice storm, hours without a heater, a freezer full of food on the line. If your power fails often enough that you've started shopping for a generator, that's the moment to have the connection planned correctly instead of improvised.

Sizing, transfer switch, pad and fuel line

Justin begins by working out what you want running when the grid is down. A well pump, furnace, fridge and a few lights is a different load from the whole house and the shop. That list sets the generator size, and it decides the transfer switch that isolates your house from the utility line so power can't flow backward.

The pad is set level and clear of the structure, the electrical feed is run in conduit, and the fuel line is coordinated with whoever supplies your propane or gas. Then comes testing. Justin cuts the utility, confirms the unit starts and the switch transfers, and puts real load on it before he leaves the property.

Chapter 03

Exercise it, test it, keep the switch honest

A standby unit that never runs is a unit that fails the one time it counts. Most are set to exercise on a schedule, so follow the maker's schedule and listen for it to come on and settle. Walk out during the cycle, look for leaks, listen for hunting or rough running, and keep the area around it clear of weeds and wasps.

The transfer switch deserves the same attention. If the house doesn't switch over during an outage, call (903) 218-3632. Justin covers his installations with a five-year labor warranty, and a quick visit from him in Athens or Gun Barrel City beats finding out in the middle of an ice storm.
